Lampwork Artist

NICOLE VALENTINE-RIMMER

HOME

"I love the colors and the reactions they provide”

With April comes springtime, everything begins anew, flowers start to bloom and The Annealer gets another opportunity to showcase an artist whose art is just as refreshing and lovely as a spring day.  This April we have the pleasure of introducing artist, Nicole Valentine-Rimmer.

Nicole, a lampwork artist since 2003, creates her works of glass in her Canadian studio.  Drawing inspiration from the wilderness in Victoria, BC, she creates most of her artwork with soft glass; stating, “[I] love the colors and reactions they provide.”

Designing jewelry with lampwork beads created by self-representing artists, Nicole became interested in learning the art form herself.  She set out to take a class to see what it was all about.  With the likes of Andrea Guarino, Michael Barley, Kimberly Affleck, and Jennifer Geldard as her teachers, it’s no wonder that Nicole’s glass art beads would find their way into the designs of many other jewelry designers and bead collectors alike.

Although Nicole states that her style changes from week to week, her favorite bead style, or signature beads, are her constellation beads.  She says, “I had made galaxies for a while, and wondered about adding constellations to them.  It took me a while to figure it out, but I really enjoy making them.”

Nicole’s family, particularly her husband, is very supportive of her art work.  Being part time hobby and part time career, her hubby was all for building her a studio at home.  Knowing how important it is to have a space for your creativities,  Nicole states, “If you can do it… do it!  I love having a creative space just for my glass.  Everything is at my fingertips.”  She adds; “I highly recommend a sink in [your studio] if you can [have one], I find bead cleaning too messy to do in my kitchen sink.”   Along with her glass assortment, you’ll also find her favorite tool in her studio, a pair of custom filed tweezers, about which she says, “I use them a lot for florals.”  Pulling stringer has become an easy task for her also since she started using the “Pull my Stringer” tool, which she recommends, claiming, “I can get loads of stringer out of one pull with varied thicknesses.”

You will find Nicole’s glass art beads on various auction sites including the Auction Boutique, or you can purchase them privately by visiting her blog as well. A
