Meet Isabelle Anderson. Isabelle, 51, resides in Cardiff, Wales, where she cares for 4 cats and a chipmunk (along with 2 children). Isabelle started off as a painter, with a degree in Fine Art, and found her way into photography, her current profession. She has tried her hand in “just about everything:" silversmithing, stained glass, sculpture, as well as painting and photography. Isabelle says of her interest in art, “I’ve always been interested in processes. I like learning new things and using tools. Beadmaking has it all! Color, form, texture, (and) design – I’m fascinated by the possibilities.”
With a one-day beginner’s course and six weeks of experience under her belt, Isabelle Anderson considers lampworking to be a “hobby at the moment," but she’d like to get good enough to sell them eventually. In comparing the first beads she made to those she outputs now, Isabelle has noticed a “huge improvement.” Isabelle’s son might not appreciate his mother playing with fire, but he loves her beads.
Let’s all give Isabelle a warm welcome into the lampwork community. She is certainly off to an excellent start and I’m sure we will see more of her art as she grows and masters the techniques of glass bead making. |
Barely having scratched the surface of glass-working, at the moment, Isabelle is most interested in exploring reactive colors and the effects of metal foils. She has no current interest in designing jewelry but remarks, “that might change!” Isabelle makes beads with Moretti/Effetre glass and sometimes Lauscha. She currently uses a Hothead torch, but plans to upgrade that tool when she moves her workspace from her spare bedroom to a shed/studio in her garden this summer. She just acquired two presses, and is “enjoying (using) them a lot.” She doesn’t have a signature bead yet; at present, she is concentrating on creating bead sets that are all the same size. It’s not preferential; she considers it a skill she is developing.
If you would like to talk to Isabelle to encourage her, or simply congratulate her on her accomplishments to date, please join us in the lampwork forum. Click here to go directly to the thread.
